Alla scoperta di Vigo di Cadore

Vigo di Cadore, located at 951 meters above sea level on the right bank of the Piave River, is a small town in Cadore that combines history, nature, and tradition. Once known for its timber trade and eyewear craftsmanship, Vigo is now emerging as a tourist destination thanks to its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

The historic center preserves several churches of great artistic and historical value. Notable among them are the Church of San Martino, built in the 1500s on a 1200s foundation, featuring frescoes by Tommaso Da Rin and wooden sculptures by Besarèl, and the Gothic-style Church of Sant’Orsola, which houses frescoes attributed to Tintoretto. Around the town, other important churches include Sant’Antonio Abate, Beata Vergine, Santa Margherita, and San Bernardino.

The town’s history is safeguarded by the Biblioteca Storica Cadorina, founded in 1892 in the old town hall. It collects documents, photographs, and manuscripts related to Cadore’s memory, divided into a historical archive, local library, and universal library.

The area is dominated by the mountains Tudaio, Schiavon, Bretoni, and Cadini di Laggio, from which many hiking trails start, including historic routes with visible World War I military posts. Casera Razzo is one of the most beautiful spots, offering wide summer pastures and snowy winter landscapes.
