Alla scoperta di Vahrn
Varna, located north of Bressanone in the Eisack Valley, is a place rich in charm and history. Together with its hamlets Novacella, Scaleres, and Spelonca, it offers many opportunities to explore local culture and enjoy nature.
The swimming lake of Varna, in a protected area since 1977, is perfect for swimming and relaxing during summer days, while the nearby fishing pond attracts fishing enthusiasts. The Rio Scaleres fitness trail, with Kneipp stations and a playground, is suitable for the whole family.
An important cultural site is the Abbey of Novacella, with its evocative Gothic Way of the Cross, the Augustinian monastery, the Baroque fountain, and the Chapel of St. Michael. The Chestnut Trail also passes through here, famous for its chestnut woods and Sylvaner wine cultivation.
The Church of St. George in Varna preserves elements dating back to the Roman era, testifying to the area's ancient history. For hiking lovers, there are easy valley walks and mountain bike trails along the Eisack Valley cycle path. More challenging hikes lead to the Sarntal Alps: from Scaleres, you can reach Corno del Ceppo, a popular ski mountaineering destination in winter, while from Spelonca you can explore the Spelonca pass and Cima Quaira.
Varna combines nature, traditions, and art in a peaceful environment surrounded by vineyards, chestnut groves, and mountains.
